People frequently ask me where the DaVinchy Chapter Book Series is headed. But when they ask, they almost always refer to the plot – incident and accident as Paul Simon said.
I love to plot these stories. When I was a kid I loved cliff hangers and the pure excitement of them. My favorite TV series was Batman – and the absolute fever pitch excitement it created knowing that Robin was headed toward the saw in the sawmill.
But (Batman aside) plots and cliffhangers aside, what really thrills me now is the ability to tell kids a story with some meat on the bones – the ability to weave in a message of what it means to live in this world with a steady, infallible compass and guidance system.
So when people ask, where are you going – I think to myself that I am going where no one has gone before in a chapter book series for kids. I’m going to a place to teach kids about the specialness of their being-ness, and how to navigate the world smoothly and creatively with nothing more than your emotional connection to your self – which itself is your connection to God, Source, All That Is – call this what you like.
I will do this in a way that captivates their minds. But it is their very souls I will be speaking to.
When I was 4 and my mom was reading Winnie the Pooh to me, the most important parts of the stories were the interrelatedness of the characters. How Pooh and Piglet cared enough for Eeyore to tear down his stick house and rebuild it.
The connection of one to the other. The connection of the individual to God source. These are my own cliff hangers that I weave from book to book to book. It is my intent that the hearts and minds of parents and kids everywhere who are interested in connecting with this information will find it and appreciate it greatly!
