The Chapter Book Series Kids Love to Read
We know, helping your child improve at reading is a challenge. But you are motivated. You can help your kid succeed. We think we have a big part of the puzzle for you. Our FREE DaVinchy Series Chapter Books – when your child falls in love with them (and most kids do) – will be a huge boost. This one book series will help your child improve his or her reading. Let us tell you why and how they work to supercharge your kid’s reading improvement.
We’ll give you a quick primer on what you need to know to help your child’s reading improve.
To start, reading teachers say your child must confidently be able to turn letters into sounds. This is called “decoding” – and reading sure can seem like a secret code to some kids! If your child can “decode” that’s great. The next step is to get some practice doing this. If not, bear with us, we have a suggestion on how the FREE DaVinchy Series Chapter Books can help with this.
Beyond that, the next goal is “reading fluency”…you know like ice skaters practice until they are fluid (fluent), smooth, and graceful. Kids get fluency when they get plenty of practice reading. So it’s important to find books that are fun to read. Don’t select books that have no interest to your child. Choose books that are fun. In-ter-est-ing! Remember, the goal is not to teach them history or science…it’s to make them fluent readers. So tThe goal is to find something that turns them on– to make them fall in love with reading!
After that, the next step to improving reading is to make sure your kids know all about what they are reading – improve reading comprehension. There are a whole bunch of simple strategies for this. I’ll suggest some good ones below, promise!) The good news is that using these strategies with the FREE DaVinchy Series Chapter Books can just make these fun books even more fun – for you and your child.
Ask any Mom in your group. You’ll hear the same story over and over again. “You just need to find one good chapter book series to get your kid to really love reading – and make huge improvements.” All of life is like that right? If you love something, you put time into doing it. The more you do it, the better you get. Reading is no different.
This is the reason we give the first 3 books for FREE. We believe that we should be able to prove our value to you and your child. If we did our job right, you’ll be happy to buy more books from us.
Each DaVinchy Series Chapter Book is like a personal reading tutor. It comes into your home. It gets your kid revved up. If fires up the excitement with each great action-adventure story. Every chapter is excitement. The chapters are short. They give your child an immediate boost and sense of accomplishment. The chapters end on a high note and encourage kids to turn the pages. (Real page turners!). The books all have “cliff hanger” endings so the suspense about what happens next is HUGE! Your kid will have to read the next book, and the next book.
Don’t forget that reading many books – getting reading practice – is the key to “reading fluency.” So as the insatiable desire for reading builds, your child reads more and more – and gets much needed reading practice.
After reading fluency, your next issue is “reading comprehension”. (Does your child understand what was read? Can he or she discuss it? Can they draw inferences from the reading? Or can they make educated guesses about what is coming next?)
Well, there is a secret for improving reading comprehension. It will make perfect sense to you when we tell it to you. Here it is:
1. Books with pictures that help explain the words increase comprehension.
2. Books with pictures that bring words vividly to life supercharge comprehension.
When people experience this boost in comprehension from DaVinchy Chapter Series Books, they say, “Of course, it’s so simple. Your pictures give the kids clues. The pictures help struggling readers get all the meaning out of the books. The pictures help kids who have a hard enough time just “decoding.”
So why don’t all books for young readers have pictures? It’s not that complicated. Kids want to read chapter books because they want to be like bigger kids. So they think they want to read words-only books.
The trick of it all is to make the pictures that are not baby-ish. Make the pictures age-appropriate. Older kids will give them the sniff test. There is nothing baby-ish about them. Older kids have compared these books to watching a video game or a movie. And where the older kids go willingly, the younger kids will be willing to follow.
Creating a look of “pure rapture and intensity” is THE goal. All the fancy terms (decoding, fluency, comprehension) are just happy effects of “pure rapture and attention.” If you get your child hooked on the excitement of reading, the rest follows, sure as rain makes seeds sprout.
Many times we are asked if our claims for how well our books work are “overstated.” Or, “Aren’t you promising more than you can deliver?” Well, there’s only one way to find out. And since that way is FREE, there is nothing to lose in the trying and everything to gain.
But I would caution you in the following. Read the DaVinchy books yourself first. Then compare the books to what your child can already read.
If the reading level is a match for your child, maybe start by taking turns with your child. You read a chapter out loud – then have them read a chapter out loud. Or every other page. Make it a FUN experience though. Make some popcorn. Talk about the pictures. Take the pressure off and see if the magic of the books takes hold.
If the reading level is too hard for your child, you have a decision to make. You could read the books out loud and just ask your child to try and pronounce some of the words that would be a “stretch read” when you come across them. This exposure to a chapter book that looks like fun will be a motivation for your child to want to read harder books. Make it a special treat and read a chapter or two every night. Or, just open up the computer and let your child look at the pictures. More than once, this has resulted in kids trying to read the books. And trying to read, is in fact, reading! That’s how kids get better at reading!
