The Chapter Book Series Kids Love to Read
Finally, chapter books yourYour second grader will love the DaVnchy Chapter Book Series. It’s got action. It’s got adventure. It’s got jetpacks, and Army Cats, and an evil mouse king. As one second grader said to me – it’s like watching a really exciting movie, except you’re reading.
This might well be the first series of chapter books your son or daughter will want to read alone. The books have relatively short chapters – the artwork kickstarts their imaginations. It tosses them headfirst into the story. The DaVinchy Chapter Book Series will provide a wonderful introduction (or continuation) to chapter book reading!
Do you know how important it is that your child has fun reading? Did you know that excitement and enthusiasm are the top two ingredients to get kids reading? It’s true. Fun, excitement, and enthusiasm super charge your child’s reading progress.
Now, it doesn’t matter if it’s the DaVinchy Chapter Book Series or Captain Underpants or a Weekly Reader Magazine. The same statement applies. Find reading material that excites your child’s imagination and watch their reading take off!
Second graders love to read these books out loud. Sit next to them and ooh and ahh. Talk about the story. Engage them to try to figure out what happens next. Ask them to tell you the plot at dinner time. Ask them what their favorite parts are. The more you encourage their minds back into the story the more excited and reading focused your child will become.
Second graders show such a wide range in reading abilities. These can change from day to day! Perhaps the greatest reading gift you can give your child is your attention and praise for where they are right now.
We created the DaVinchy Chapter Book Series to be fun for parents to read to kids, for kids to read aloud to parents, and for kids to read to themselves.
So whatever your second grader’s reading ability, there is a way to help your child get hooked on a good chapter book series. You could sit down with them and enjoy it together. Or you can make a bowl of popcorn for them and give them a special drink and call it “special fun reading time.”
However you do it – just watch as the DaVinchy Chapter Book Series gets them hooked on reading.
Somewhere in your child’s future there is a long chapter book with no pictures. We like to say that you’ll find the DaVinchy Chapter Book Series on the road to Harry Potter and the Hobbit series. But to get your child started, there is nothing better than a book that gives positive reinforcement fast and often. That’s why we made short chapters. Each time your child finishes a chapter it’s like the book slaps ‘em a high five!
Kids who never finish books, finish these books. Kids who can’t sit still for an hour of reading, magically find themselves plowing through a solid hour of reading.
This is priceless experience – and experience is the number one factor is kids improving their reading skills! Don’t underestimate the power of a short chapter.
Kids in the second grade get more and more sensitive to the subject of a book. They want to feel more grown up. That was why we made books that featured two mice on an exciting, non-stop adventure. The DaVinchy Chapter Book Series takes DaVinchy and Milo through secret caves beneath the basement floor and into kingdom of the bad mouse king – the feared Imperium Majesterium.
We are talking about a book series that will light up your child’s imagination.
There’s new adventure on every page. Serious action lurks in every chapter! Your kids will forget they are reading and think – they will know - they are having fun. I assure you that as you ignite the sense of fun you will be sending your child’s reading aptitude into orbit.
So many moms have told us that their number one priority is to get their kids hooked on a good chapter book series. Once this happens, these moms know that their kids are on the way to being good readers. The best way we know to keep a kid plugged into a chapter book series is to make it a mystery. (All the books are cliff hangers, too!)
You wanted your kids hooked on reading, so we’re trotting out every trick in the book to get the job done!
Kids are really tough critics when it comes to the pictures. I mean, think about it. They are used to seeing the best illustrators and animation artists that the world has ever seen on the big screen.
That’s why they will fall in love with the DaVinchy Chapter Book Series!
Fran Panza’s illustrations are second to none. The vivid color, the action poses that feel lifted right out of a movie. Well, one day this series will be a movie. But in the meantime, the quality of the artwork lets the movie run inside your children’s minds.
You may never hear this from a teacher – few know this secret well. But a huge key to reading is to get the visualizing part of the brain engaged. If a kid can visualize the action, the reading somehow becomes much easier. (Take a look at the magazines you read – they know this secret for keeping their adult audience engaged, too!)
The reason you never see quality color illustrations in books for second graders is that they cost too much and kids are reading so fast their parents would go broke paying for them. This is the benefit of being able to read the books on your computer…it keeps the cost down.
Don’t forget computer games, video games and TV shows – full of pictures – are all competing for your child’s mind.
Friendship, loyalty, love…learning to live from your heart.
These are the values the DaVinchy Chapter Book Series promotes. These are the values that your kids will be emulating (along with pretending that they are riding on an jetpack!) Many people love Ramona, but wish she wasn’t naughty. And while kids love Captain Underpants, some parents could live without the “poop” humor.
I love both these book series – but understand the point of view that struggles with them. (Beverly Cleary, I bow before you – Ramona and Henry rocked my little world as a six year old!)
So we wrote books that wouldn’t have these issues. But I suppose the first time a second grader breaks a lamp by pretending to be wearing a rocket pack, I’m going to hear an earful!
To all you moms with reluctant readers I say: “Bring em on!!!” These are books even the MOST reluctant readers seem to fall in love with. I’ve seen it take up to three books before they get fully hooked. But it will happen.
Struggling readers are usually happy to be reading these books, too. Sometimes more, sometimes less depending on how much they are struggling and what the cause is. I will never forget the feedback a really struggling fifth grade girl gave us when she said that she really enjoyed them and they were not baby-ish. She had a second grade reading level at the time, and she read for an hour straight with our books – a record for her – with the assistance of a reading teacher.
I’d love to hear any stories you have – good or bad – for how the books work with reluctant and struggling readers. We’re always open to making the series better and better.
