The Chapter Book Series Kids Love to Read
You are looking for ways to jump start your first grader’s reading, right? Well, we have a unique perspective that you mi
Kids love computers. They were born pre-wired to be able to, and to want to use the computer to have fun and tap into their world. They play games, use applications and programs, surf the web…all through the computer. It is their access point to their world.
The idea of reading on a computer – online – just makes sense, right. If this is the horse they like to ride, let ‘em ride it. This is why we have set up our website to let kids read online. The like it! So turn your child loose. Click on the Free Books button and get them started.
The magic of the computer might just do the rest for you.
Go and get your favorite magazine. Now count the number of pictures on each page…and in the entire magazine. Now ask yourself if this is a “fun” source of information? Is your magazine a treat that you save for some down time, some “you” time.
I can tell you that it’s not just the topics which feel good in your magazine reading experience. It’s the way the information just seems to flow into your brain, from the combination of pictures that seem to “go” with the words.
Magazine publishers have known for over 100 years that this is the secret to making reading seem easy and fun. It’s astonishing to us that book publishers and text book publishers have only recently caught on to this.
So, for heaven’s sake, choose the DaVinchy Chapter Book Series and give your kid a fun and easy reading experience. Or get them a Ranger Rick magazine…or anything that uses pictures to draw them in. But use this secret reading trick.
Having fun isn’t just a tip for luring your child toward reading. It’s the only way your child will learn. If it’s not fun the brain says “I’m done.” Fun is what opens up the learning highway in your child’s mind.
Ask yourself this question. Pick any subject in school that you didn’t like. Pick a subject that you “struggled” with. Now try and recall what you learned during that year of study. If you’re like most people you will have zero recall of the information which you were supposed to have learned.
Now, pick a subject that turned you on – made you feel happy and excited. (This was probably a subject that you chose yourself, I’m guessing.) Now ask yourself what you learned in your studies on this topic. Heck, I bet you could fill up notebooks with what you know about the things that were exciting or fun for you to learn. Am I right.
For your kids – memorize this simple statement: If it ain’t fun – they are done!
Make sure you keep reading as a fun, exciting, happy subject and you will go far, and fast.
Fun and passion are connected! For kids, fun usually fuels a healthy passion for a subject or hobby. (Passion can have a kind of obsessive element to it, too – but for our purposes let’s focus on the fun kind of passion you are trying to ignite.)
Everyone knows that kids can get very passionate about reading chapter book series. Hey, before my daughter was through the third grade, she had every Goosebump Series book and a full bookshelf…so I know passion when I see it. Harry Potter books ignited the same type of passion in my kids – they would go and hide when they were in the midst of these books.
So what I’m suggesting is that you dangle different books or different topics in front of your child. Or pay attention to the things that are of interest already…and just start throwing fuel on that fire.
Kids like movies. Kids like video games. Kids love the internet. What do they all have in common? Color. Bright, brilliant, blooming, vibrant – enthralling color. Kids love it.
Walk down the cereal aisle in the grocery store. What do you see? Go to any toy store? Are you getting the picture? If you are, you can see that it’s a vibrant color picture that attracts your kids eye.
Now go and put your nose into a black and white book and ask yourself what it feels like for your child to go from a world of living color to a world of black, white and gray.
The DaVinchy Chapter Book Series are all in bright, beautiful color. And, because your child can read them on the computer screen, the color is VIBRANT.
Kids love this kind of reading experience. We offer it for free giving you the first book in the series for free. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
