Well the truth is that we put a lot of time and effort into understanding what it was that made books easy for kids to read. Entertaining them is the first part . Kids like action, so we deliver action! But we wanted to make it easy for kids to read the words and to learn new words, too.

To do this, we took extra special care to make sure that the pictures were telling the same story as the words. Because the pictures and words “go together” it makes it easy for your child to “figure out” the tough words. It’s like a puzzle where all the clues are on the same page. So sure, kids may have to “work” at it. But when you are having fun, solving these puzzles can just be more fun – not work at all!

I’m not sure if you are even aware of this, but most of the magazines you read kind of use the same strategy to make sure you have fun reading them, too. So why is it that first grade chapter books are expected to have no pictures. Why do most chapter books make kids go cold turkey on pictures. No pictures equals no fun.

The stories center around DaVinchy and his friend Milo, who get lost in a strange world and have to rely on their friendship and each other to make their way back home. There are plenty of things to talk about in these books…but the main characters are good role models.

The DaVincy Chapter Book Series has lots of action, excitement and mystery. This was designed to stimulate and excite your first grade boy or girl. There are some sensitive kids, however, who may find this action and drama a bit too much. For instance, I still recall how one of my daughter’s good friends would hide behind the sofa when we watched Lassie on TV- because any suspense frightened her.

Let me assure you. In the DaVinchy Series there is always a happy way out. No one ever gets hurt. But there are times when there seems to be a doubt about these happy endings. These “cliffhangers” are part of the secret formula that will keep your kids excited and reading day after day – and sometimes late at night!
